Radon Gas Barriers

With the extensive use of brown field sites, gas escaping from the ground has become a major problem for developers.

Solution:

Newton membranes are tested as gas tight systems provide a both a gas barrier, and a gas cavity system where the studs of the membrane form a cavity within the building which allows the gas to flow freely beneath them to an extraction point.  When dealing with gas situations it is imperative for all joints to be sealed with care.  It is recommended that the Newton Waterseal Tape be used for primary sealing, with Newton OverTape as a secondary layer of sealing protection. When dealing with gas contamination, expert consultation and advice is highly recommended.  Please contact Newton’s technical department for more details.

The Newton 508 membrane has been successfully independently tested and accredited by the two leading laboratories in Europe for Radon permeability.

Where a gas tight membrane is required as part of a waterproofing solution, Newton System 500 also acts as a the gas proof system if all the joints to the membranes are double sealed as indicated above, and a gas tight sump system such as our Titan-Pro is used to remove the water collected by the system.

Gas proof systems should be professionally designed and specified - Newton’s technical staff hold certification in Radon Treatment and Remediation from “The Radon Council” of Great Britain.
